Northern Territory’s First Home Buyer Benefits – What’s on Offer

The Northern Territory offers some of the most generous first-home buyer assistance in Australia, with large grants and stamp duty relief available. Here’s a breakdown of the main programs and who can apply.

1. HomeGrown Territory Grant

What you get:

  • $50,000 for buying or building a new home.

  • $10,000 for purchasing an established home.

Eligibility:

  • Must be a first home buyer who has never owned property in Australia.

  • Must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident aged 18+.

  • Contract must be signed between 1 October 2024 and 30 September 2026 for the $50,000 new home grant.

  • For the $10,000 established home grant, contracts must be signed by 30 September 2025.

  • Must live in the property as your principal place of residence for at least 12 months after settlement or construction completion.

2. FreshStart Grant

What you get:

  • $30,000 for building or purchasing a new home.

  • Available even if you have owned property before.

Eligibility:

  • Must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident aged 18+.

  • Contract must be signed by 30 September 2026.

  • Must occupy the property as your principal place of residence for at least 12 months after settlement or completion.

3. House & Land Package Stamp Duty Exemption

What you get:

  • Full stamp duty exemption for eligible house-and-land packages.

Eligibility:

  • Must purchase a house-and-land package from a builder under a single contract.

  • Contract must be signed between 1 July 2022 and 30 June 2027.

  • Must meet principal place of residence requirements.
